The Medicines for Children Research Network's (MCRN) main objective is to facilitate the development of medicines that are both safe and effective in the treatment of children. It has a major focus on clinical trials but also includes other study designs relevant to the overall objective.
The vision is of a network which will provide leadership and a world-class environment to conduct clinical trials of medicinal products for children throughout the whole range of healthcare, and that includes the active involvement of children. This will provide considerable benefit for children through the new knowledge gained by excellent research and the improvements in care, which will follow.
The MCRN Coordinating Centre is led by a consortium comprising the University of Liverpool, Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust, Imperial College London, National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit (NPEU; University of Oxford), Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust and the National Children's Bureau. The MCRN Executive Committee is made up of representative from each of these organisations. The MCRN Executive reports to the MCRN Board which is comprised of representatives of key stakeholders in paediatric research. Details of the remit and membership of the MCRN Board can be found here (click to access doc).
