Clinical Studies Groups

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrint

Our Network has establised 13 Clinical Studies Groups (CSGs), covering the majority of clinical paediatric specialties. This includes a CSG which focuses on Pharmacy and Pharmacology with expertise in paediatric formulations and pharmacokinetics / pharmacodynamics. We also have a Methodology CSG which includes Members with expertise in qualitative research, health economics, statistics and trial design.

Membership

All of our CSGs are led by enthusiastic individuals with outstanding track records of initiating and leading high quality studies of relevance to children. They are supported by Members from relevant disciplines including active researchers (clinical and other professions), parents, nurses, formulation experts and charity representatives. We have a system of membership rotation and an open, national and competitive recruitment process for the appointment of both new Chairs and Members.

Role and Remit

Our CSGs are tasked with directing and developing the future MCRN Portfolio of clinical studies and do so in two ways. Firstly, they take a PROACTIVE ROLE in developing new studies within the CSG and secondly, they provide a REACTIVE ROLE by guiding and supporting investigators including the pharmaceutical industry in the planning and development of their studies.

Meetings

Each CSG has two to three face-to-face meetings a year and teleconferences in between as required.

Remuneration

Our Members are not paid for being involved but we do make sure that all travel expenses are covered (second class only). Parent representatives receive honoraria for their contribution.

Coordination

All of our CSGs are supported by the MCRN Coordinating Centre and the Portfolio Development Team has the role of overseeing the day-to-day management of each Group.
